Similarities Between MLK and the Occupy Movement
Whether you were alive during the time of the MLK (Martin Luther King, Junior) movement, or you have only read about it in history books, the similarities between the MLK and the Occupy movement of today are uncanny and familiar on multiple levels. If you find yourself participating in the current Occupy Wall Street movement, you are able to see for yourself how the MLK movement resembles today's movements with your own eyes.
Martin Luther King, Junior had a vision for all people to feel equally treated and respected. This is similar to the Occupy movement of today in which the people in support of the movement are often called "the 99 percent." Towards the end of Martin Luther King's life, he was known for working with the low-income population towards income, housing and jobs. This bears a striking resemblance to today's Occupy Wall Street movement which is also striving for equality in the workplace. Also, both movements work together with large groups of people in rallies all across the nation to speak out on the matters.
Whether you are currently involved with the Occupy movement, or you are simply observing the events of today, understanding the similarities between the MLK movement and the Occupy Wall Street movement is a way to grasp how history repeats itself. It is also a way to help people learn from past mistakes and to stop history from repeating itself.
